After suffering a major knee injury in December of his 2023 rookie season, running back Keaton Mitchell was named the Ravens’ 2024 Ed Block Courage Award winner. The honor, named after the legendary Baltimore Colts trainer, is voted on by teammates and given to the player who is a model of inspiration, sportsmanship, and courage.
As an undrafted rookie out of East Carolina, Mitchell burst onto the NFL scene in 2023 and became a key figure in the Ravens’ record-setting offensive attack. But after tearing his ACL in a Week 15 win at Jacksonville, ensuing months of grueling recovery and rehab tested him mightily. However, just as he’s done throughout his entire life, Mitchell persevered and overcame obstacles in his path, returning to game action in less than a year to help Baltimore win its second-straight AFC North title. Today, his redemption and Ed Block Courage Award resonate deeply, because Mitchell knows they were made possible by his teammates, who saw firsthand just how hard he worked to return to the game he loves.
