2023 Courage Award Winner

Breece Hall

2023 Ed Block Courage Award Winner

On October 23, 2022, running back Breece Hall suffered an ACL injury that officially ended his promising rookie season during the Jets Week Seven game at the Denver Broncos. Prior to the injury, Hall had amassed 681 yards (463 rushing and 218 receiving) and 5 touchdowns on 99 touches. Breece is held in high regards by his coaches and teammates alike and his presence on the playing field was missed for the remainder of the 2022 season.  Hall proceeded to undergo knee surgery 25 days after his injury occurred and dedicated the remainer of the season to returning to the field. Hall attacked the rehab process day in and day out with the same tenacity and grit he approaches every game with remaining at the team facility from the date of surgery to the day he returned to full practice in late August.

All of Hall’s work was on display in the season opener, 319 days since his injury occurred, when he returned to the field against the Buffalo Bills and amassed 157 all-purpose yards in the team’s overtime victory. He started every game during the 2023 season and finished with the fourth-most all-purpose yards in the NFL with 1,584 yards. Hall embodies a player who continues to fight when faced with adversity and continuously pushes himself and his teammates. Even when he could not contribute on the field, Hall showcased leadership through his hard work and dedication during his entire rehabilitation process. Once he returned, he continued to make an impact on the team by playing a key role in the Jets’ offense in the 2023 season. “Breece is a special talent, we all agree when the ball is in his hands, we’re better,” said Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh. For those reasons, Breece Hall has been recognized for his dedication to his team by being selected as the 2023 Ed Block Courage Award.
