Quarterback Kyler Murray was selected by his teammates as the 2023 Arizona Cardinals Ed Block Courage Award winner. Murray spent the majority of his football career without a significant injury prior to suffering a torn ACL on a non-contact play last December. Although it was Murray’s first time dealing with such a significant injury, he did not approach the laborious rehabilitation process like a beginner. Murray was relentless in his pursuit of getting back on the field. Instead of returning to his home state of Texas like he had done in past off-seasons, Murray stayed in Arizona and trained rigorously at the Cardinals Training Center to put himself in a position to be able to play as soon as possible.
Murray kept his head up during every step of the process and used the additional time around the team’s facility to get closer to his teammates. After countless hours of grueling rehab, Murray returned to the field 335 days following the injury and led the Cardinals to a comeback win over the visiting Atlanta Falcons in his first game back. The dedication Murray showed throughout his rehabilitation was an inspiration to all of his Cardinals teammates and coaches. He truly embodies what the Ed Block Courage Award stands for.
